【開卷有益】俗世中的安息日操練

 

Book每年的感恩節和聖誕節都是購物的高峰期,商人們想盡辦法刺激商品的銷路,消費者購物的意欲亦異常高漲,大家都忙於買賣活動,準備美衣、美食和禮物,讓自己和家人好好地歡樂、慶祝佳節。

然而無止境的購物和消費,會讓人身心疲累,反而無法享受假日的休閒與安寧,失去了節慶真正的意義,是要讓人的心靈回歸安息。

北美出色的神學家、教會音樂家和教育家唐慕華(Marva J. Dawn)所寫的《俗世中的安息日操練》(Keeping the Sabbath Wholly),就是要提醒讀者,以嶄新的角度去理解上帝設立六天工作,一天休息的節奏規律,帶給人身體和心靈的益處和幫助,是遠遠超過我們的想像。

猶太民族一直以來嚴謹遵守安息日的規定,甚至訂定了諸多額外的條款,免得在不知情的狀況下,觸犯了上帝所頒布的十誡。然而守安息日,絕對不是教條式的責任,相反,這是根據自然規律而生活帶給我們的自由。每七日便將一天分別出來,去體驗平日沒有機會留意和欣賞的事物,擴闊生活空間和想像,這是何等令人振奮的事情!

安息日這個詞源自希伯來動詞 Shabbat,基本意思是「停止或克制」。上帝在六日之內創造天地,第七天便安息舒暢,最後一組詞句可翻譯為「祂停止並恢復活力」。

作者認為,在安息日不單停止工作;也停止對所有成就和生產的需要;停止伴隨著現代對效率的要求而產生的掛慮和張力;停止將自己當做神一樣,要設法控制自己的生命;停止我們的支配欲和被文化同化;最後,還要停止沒有把上帝當為生命的中心,過著不斷索取而沒有意義的生活。

每隔七天便停止自己一切的努力,不為自己作準備,也不強求要在世上取得成功時,我們的生命便會得到徹底的醫治。守安息日其中一個最大的好處,就是學習讓上帝照顧我們,不是藉著變得被動和懶惰,而是自願地放棄勉強、執著和攫取,全心全意欣賞上帝原來已將我們所需的,豐豐足足地賞賜給我們,不再有其他的渴求。

相信很多人甚至是基督徒心裡難免有一些疑慮,認為在現代社會裡,七天之中便有一天放下工作,甚麼都不做,實在有點奢侈而不設實際。尤其是對於醫生、護士、神職人員、紀律部隊和服務性行業的工作人員,更無法固定把星期天分別出來,與眾信徒一同敬拜上帝,而心生歉疚。可是耶穌自己也在安息日醫治病患,福音書也一再強調耶穌忠實地守安息日。或者對部份人來說,講道、醫病、照顧病人、憐憫貧窮並不算是工作,而是以另一種方式敬拜上帝。因此我們不能以教條主義來決定那一天守安息日,那些是工作,那些不是工作。

當我們決定了七天之中,用一天的時間遵守安息日,這一天的目標和理想就不再是追逐個人的成就,或專注於工作的效率,相對而言,有更多的時間與別人相處,放下了世界衡量價值的標準,我們可以自由地彼此接納,互相欣賞,深深體會每個人都是上帝獨特的創造,具備不同的恩賜,讓這個世界變得多姿多彩。

上帝要以色列人遵守安息日,不單是停止工作和休息,更是一個快樂和歡慶的日子,因為在這一天,上帝完成了創造世界的工作,也樂意讓人放下手中的工作,停止焦慮、擔心和緊張,輕鬆、寫意、愉悅地享受祂的賜予和同在。

安息日是上帝對人表達慈愛憐憫的日子,祂決意讓人在這個煩擾紛亂的世代中,每週一天全然倚靠祂的恩典,輕嚐天國的美好,更引頸渴望將來那永恆的安息。

 

喜樂 Joy

喜樂的心乃是良藥;憂傷的靈使骨枯乾。箴言 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

然而,我要因耶和華歡欣,因救我的 神喜樂。哈巴谷書 3:18
yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Habakkuk 3:18

饒恕 Forgiveness

主啊,你本為良善,樂意饒恕人,有豐盛的慈愛賜給凡求告你的人。詩篇 86:5
You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Psalm 86:5

你不要說:“我要以惡報惡”;要等候耶和華,他必拯救你。箴言 20:22
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will avenge you. Proverbs 6:14

你們饒恕人的過犯,你們的天父也必饒恕你們的過犯;馬太福音 6:14

謙卑 Humility

敬畏耶和華是智慧的訓誨;尊榮以前,必有謙卑。箴言 15:33
Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor. Proverbs 15:33

敬畏耶和華心存謙卑,就得富有、尊榮、生命為賞賜。箴言 22:4
Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4

凡事不可結黨,不可貪圖虛浮的榮耀;只要存心謙卑,各人看別人比自己強。腓立比書 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. Philippians 2:3

驕傲 Pride

溫柔 Meekness

回答柔和,使怒消退;言語暴戾,觸動怒氣。箴言 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

溫柔的人有福了,因為他們必承受地土。馬太福音 5:5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5

嫉妒 Envy

不要為作惡的心懷不平,也不要向那行不義的生出嫉妒。詩篇 37:1
Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong. Psalm 37:1

心中安靜是肉體的生命;嫉妒是骨中的朽爛。箴言 14:30
A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Proverbs 14:30

在何處有嫉妒、紛爭,就在何處有擾亂和各樣的壞事。雅各書 3:16
For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. James 3:16

生氣 Anger

當止住怒氣,離棄忿怒;不要心懷不平,以致作惡。詩篇 37:8
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. Psalm 37:8

好生氣的人,不可與他結交;暴怒的人,不可與他來往。箴言 22:24

災難 Calamity

謹守口與舌的、就保守自己免受災難。箴言 21:23

民要攻打民、國要攻打國、多處必有地震、饑荒.這都是災難的起頭。馬可福音 13:8
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. Mark 13:8

憂愁 Worry

你們不要憂愁、因靠耶和華而得的喜樂是你們的力量。尼希米記 8:10
Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

主雖使人憂愁, 還要照他諸般的慈愛發憐憫。耶利米哀歌 3:32
Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. Lamentations 3:32

凡勞苦擔重擔的人,可以到我這裡來,我就使你們得安息。馬太福音 11:28
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

患難 Trouble, Suffering

義人多有苦難,但耶和華救他脫離這一切。詩篇 34:19
The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all. Psalm 34:19

神是我們的避難所,是我們的力量,是我們在患難中隨時的幫助!詩篇 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

耶和華本為善,在患難的日子為人的保障,並且認得那些投靠他的人。那鴻書 1:7
The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him. Nahum 1:7
